Witnesses tell of New Years Eve with Ben
Witness Rebecca Scherp told of meeting with Olivia Hope on New Years Eve when she arrived at the campsite Rebecca was sharing with her sister, Anna. Not long after 10pm Olivia left the campsite and Rebecca said she didn’t see her again.
A further witness, Peter Lambie, a flatmate of Ben’s sister, also took the stand and described how he met and talked with Ben Smart on the lawn of the lodge. Ben talked to Peter about going to a Radiohead concert in Wellington and staying at Peter’s flat in January 1998. Ben then moved off and Peter didn’t see him again that night.
Another witness with the same group said she also met Ben for the first time that night and that although he had been drinking he appeared in control.
