Watson’s boat not the one I saw – Guy Wallace Testimony
Guy Wallace, the water taxi driver from Furneaux Lodge that dropped Ben Smart and Olivia Hope off at a boat with another man that he has identified as Scott Watson, gave evidence today.
Last April he picked Watson out of the police photographs he was shown as the man most resembling the one that was with the missing pair on his water taxi. He had helped police compile an identikit picture of this man but said the facial features were different in the picture from the man he saw.
Wallace was adamant that the ketch he dropped the trio off at was a 2 masted ketch and was not the seized boat because it was too short and only had one mast. He further stated that the ketch was 38-40ft long and well maintained. In previous testimony, Watson’s boat has been described as a homebuilt sloop less than 30ft long and in need of a paint job. He said the only similarity between the boat he saw that New Years and the boat of Scott Watson’s that was seized by police for examination was that “it floats”.
Wallace said the man that offered Ben and Olivia a bed for the night on his ketch had not shaved or combed his hair. He said that the man seemed only interested in offering Olivia a berth for the night and not her companion, saying the man gestured towards Olivia saying “you can come”, and then gesturing towards her companion, saying “but you can’t”. Wallace said he had a funny feeling about the encounter but the two young people assured him they would be fine.
