Mon 16th Aug - trial hears of DNA testing errors
A scientist involved in testing for DNA evidence in the Scott Watson murder trial has told the court mistakes were made in the way some evidence was processed.
Susan Vintiner from ESR says DNA tests taken from hair found on a blanket in the cabin of the accused's yacht very strongly support the proposition that they came from Olivia Hope.
But under cross examination from defence lawyer, Bruce Davidson, Ms Vintiner says there was an error in the numbering of samples of bloodstains and hair taken from the blanket.
She says because of that, scientists had no way of distinguishing between Scott Watson's and Ben Smart's hair based on DNA analysis.
