Police find remains of murder victim Gavin Dash. Accused name released.
The remains were found 20 metres off a path, 400 metres along another track, which starts at the top of Makara Hill Road, stated Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Arnerich.
A detective on his morning tea break found the remains of missing student Gavin Dash. He had deviated from the grid pattern used for the methodical search,said Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Arnerich. The detective has been praised for his timely find and saving his colleagues further work.
No details are being released as to what remains were found and how Gavin Dash came to be buried here. A pathologist has examined the site, and objects found have been sent for analysis.
Name suppression of the man accused of the murder and burglary of Dash’s Northland flat has been lifted. He is David James Gates, 26 yrs old, unemployed painter. Gates remains in custody to Porirua Psychiatric Hospital and entered no plea, when the charges were heard against him, in the Wellington District Court last Friday.
