Watson Jury Visits Malborough Sounds
The Scott Watson case is now into it’s third week at the High Court in Wellington. Early this morning, the jury flew by a chartered DC3 plane to Blenheim for a two-day tour of all the areas that will be part of the evidence given in court.
They were taken to Shakespeare Bay, near Picton, and shown where Watson’s boat, Blade, was moored. This is also where the police seized it from.

The group consisting of Judge Heron, jury, counsel and court staff, then proceeded to Waikawa Bay, north of Picton, to view Watson’s boat called Blade. Prosecution counsel, Paul Davidson, QC, pointed out to the jury how the Blade’s appearance had changed twice since New Year’s Day. The jury was also shown the interior of the boat and where the Crown’s exhibits had been found. Some of these items were the blanket that is said to have yielded two hairs belonging to Olivia Hope and the scratch marks on the forward hatch cover. The jury was asked by the Defence to take special note of several items on board. These included the chart table, cutlery draw and the forward hatch cover when closed- noting the position of the scratch marks.

The group was then taken to Punga Cove in Endeavour Inlet where they will stay the night and begin a tour of Furneaux Lodge and Eire Bay by boat tomorrow.
