Jury in Watson murder trial visit Furneaux Lodge
The jury in the Scott Watson murder trial visited Furneaux Lodge in Queen Charlotte Sound this morning, to inspect the area where Ben Smart and Olivia Hope disappeared.
Paul Davidson, QC, crown prosecutor briefed the jury on what they were about to see before taking them to the jetty area and then the garden bar and lawn areas. They were taken on a guided tour inside Furneaux Lodge of the bar areas and finished their task with a walk around the Croft area. Groups of jurors were taken by water taxi to see where Watson’s boat, Blade, was moored on that fateful New Year’s Eve.
In the first two weeks of the trial, the jury has heard how yells and screams from some of the 400 people gathered for New Years Eve 1997, rang out through the bay in the early hours of January the first.
Today the jury has be taken around a very different and tranquil scene at Furneaux Lodge, as they become acquainted with the area the Crown witnesses have been describing.
